Our first and longest base. We stayed in Ueno, did Senso-ji in the evening, a full day around Shibuya, Harajuku and Shinjuku, and used Tokyo as the base for Kamakura and Hakone.

Temple · Free Senso-ji in the evening
Packed in the day. We went in the evening and it was calm and peaceful.
Riverside walk · Free Sumida River walk
A slow walk right after Senso-ji. Tokyo without the intensity.
Iconic sight · Free Shibuya Scramble Crossing
Everyone crosses from every side at once. Best seen from above.
Neighbourhood · Free Harajuku, Takeshita Street & Cat Street
Loud Takeshita Street, then calmer Cat Street and Tokyu Plaza next door.
Viewpoint · Free Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building
Free deck on the 45th floor, about 202 m up. Free projection show on the building at night.
